KATY ELLIS

Katy Ellis likes to explore people and animals in their relationship with the landscape as they go about their routines. Combining areas of closely observed detail, with loose, crisp washes in watercolour and gouache, she likes to build up thin layers of colour, to create interesting textures and shapes sometimes half submerged. Katy’s work is a combination of remembered moments, images taken from sketchbooks and photographs recorded while travelling extensively through Italy, the Far East, and increasingly the landscape around her home town of Saffron Walden. An honours graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Katy has exhibited extensively through England, France and America, receiving several prestigious awards for her work. In 2003 she was elected a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
